The Start Sailing 1&2 course is held over seven Saturday mornings and is for teens and adults wanting to learn the fundamentals of sailing. Participants are introduced to dinghy sailing in the club's RS Quests and will learn sailing terminology, boat rigging, sailing skills and practise launching and returning to shore as well as capsize recovery. Our courses are delivered by our qualified Australian Sailing instructors and assistant instructors.
DPSS follows a well-designed curriculum where participants experience fun, fitness and freedom in the outdoors with others.
We provide the boats, lifejackets and qualified instructors. You bring your sun protection - a hat, sunscreen, long-sleeved shirt, shorts. Please also bring spare clothes, a towel, a water bottle, closed-in non-slip shoes that can get wet.
The cost per participant for the Start Sailing 1 & 2 course is $360. Numbers for each course are strictly limited and enrolments are accepted on the basis of first to enrol and pay through the online registration and payment system.

Who should do this course?
This course is designed for participants who wish to begin sailing in a dinghy. All the equipment and gear will be provided by your accredited Discover Sailing Centre.
Course Outcome
You will gain your Start Sailing 1 And Start Sailing 2 completion certificate.
We recognise that some of our course participants are completing the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award and may be using sailing and/or club membership to complete one or more sections of The Award. To learn more, click here.
